| Welcome to Action for Sustainable Energy for Bristol ACSEB are a group campaigning for environmentally and socially just solutions to reduce the energy consumption of Bristol by at least 40% by 2020. This policy was originally sponsored by Bristol Friends of the Earth and was adopted by Bristol City Council on 10 November 2009. Stop Avonmouth Biofuels We are currently focusing our efforts on stopping the proposed development of a (palm oil-fuelled) biofuel power station in Avonmouth. Follow the links on the right to see how you can help the campaign, and register your opposition. W4B's planning application was refused permission on 24 Feb, on the grounds of damage to the natural environment and in accordance with Bristol's Local Plan. The potential subsidies (ROCs) make this a very lucrative (though extremely risky) venture for the investors, so they have appealed against refusal. The final decision will now be made by Secretary of State Eric Pickles at the Dept for Communities and Local Government. He will base his decision on the outcome of a public inquiry run by the Planning Inspectorate – opening on 10 August. The W4B Inquiry A coalition of local and national groups opposing the power station – including ACSEB - has major participant status at the inquiry. This means we will be submitting detailed evidence and challenging the evidence put forward by W4B. Contact us if you want to find out more. The Inquiry will run for 6 days at The Council House, College Green, Bristol, starting at 10.00 on 10 August. The sitting dates are at the Inspector’s discretion and may be changed once the Inquiry has opened. Anyone can attend the inquiry and observe. Accessibility questions should be raised with Bristol Council You can apply to make a statement at the Inquiry by contacting the Planning Inspectorate, quoting the appeal reference number APP/Z0116/A/10/2126342/NWF Campaigners will be gathering at 9.00 on 10 August on College Green to demonstrate against the power station.
